Methodology — UK Business Support Finder

The problem

UK SMEs struggle to discover which government business-support schemes, advisory services and datasets apply to them. The information exists across many open datasets on data.gov.uk but there is no single plain-language way to find the relevant ones.

What this tool does

• Queries the open, no-auth data.gov.uk CKAN Search API for datasets matching a keyword.
• Deterministically classifies each result into a sector bucket (keyword match — no machine learning).
• Links to the official publisher page.

Data source & honesty

Results are fetched live from the CKAN API at request time. If unavailable, the tool shows an honest 'source unavailable' message — it never fabricates results. Economic impact is unquantified until measured.
